1983's Where Angels Fear to Tread was the third album from Australian melodic hard rockers Heaven. The band pulled out all the stops to make this their big breakthrough album, including lineup changes, guest stars (including Lita Ford, Glenn Hughes, and Ronnie James Dio), and a more melodic and accessible sound. If there's a happy medium between AC/DC's all-out party rock and Journey-style arena rock, Heaven found it with this album. It's slick and melodic, but still rowdy and upbeat. I could see how it might not be serious enough for most metal fans at the time, especially given the rise of bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, but hard rock fans in general should have been all over this album. Sadly, that was not the case. Where Angels Fear to Tread is a rockin' fun album that should have been much better received. At this point though, its appeal is going to be limited to fans from back in the day and serious 80's rock collectors.
